Getting my first complete and ready to go power boat in the spring of 2009 rekindled my interest in boats. I then sought a model to build, and bought the Fairy Huntsman kit before wanting to sail yachts, pulling a 25 year model from the loft and repairing it, finally buying the Robbe Trueblue yacht for my father in-law (which we both sail)

I’ve learned a lot in the past year, some bad experiences, but have sought advise from club members and my interest continues to grow. I’m now waiting to take delivery of a 51” hull by Bob Underwood, based upon the J Class yacht that I have become passionate about (Endeavour being my favourite, see yacht here). I nearly purchased a model lifeboat, but that will have to wait. I love yachts but our pond has poor wind, ideal for lazy sailing though.

My favourite scratch built yacht that is over 25 years old. It didn’t sail so well until | got help from Peter at P J Sails, and it looks great on the water and attracts interest from passing families or children More Bob Underwood taught me that a model needs presence on the water, and that is exactly what I look for in a model.

Graupner Trueblue. I love this quick to build model yacht. It sails well in light or strong winds. Though purchased for my father in-law, it is my preferred boat. More

I have just finished my Fairey Huntsman and that has freed me up to start a new yacht project.

Here’s a really interesting J Class model that the guys in the USA get to sail. Having stumbled across this, I was really up for buying a hull....till I found it was 9 feet long and really tall. I’d be interested in anyone else who’s up for getting into this modelling. More at my web site
